If i could give this more than 5 stars, I would. The place is amazing, clean, comfortable, unique with a lot of charm. It's like a little sanctuary and oasis in Montañita, far enough from town, but close enough to walk to. The staff is incredibly warm and friendly and provides a great community feel. This place is awesome for surfers, but you don't have to surf to love this place. If you're considering, look no further and book it. You won't be disappointed.

Best place I've stayed in Montañita. Friendly staff and delicious homemade breakfast. A little paradise in Ecuador. Every single detail is made thinking on the guests. Try the "Combi" room.. you will love the experience.
Balsa Surf Camp was the first and last place I stayed during my month in Ecuador. It was so good I had to return for another stay before flying home. It’s a relaxing, rainforest paradise a block off the beach. There is free yoga and the instructor Andy is amazing. The included breakfast was the best I tasted in Ecuador. All the food is great at their Jaja Cafe. I could not have been more comfortable or loved Balsa House more. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
We stayed 10 nights in the balsa surf camp and absolutely loved it! We booked a „surf intensive“ package which had everything included (surf training , functional and balance training, daily yoga classes, all the meals in the „JaJa“ restaurant which in located in the hotel, massages, jacuzzi sessions and more. The functional training was 1h each day with Andy. He is an amazing and very pleasent coach and has a big knowledge about surfing positions, balance training and more. The surf classes (2h/day) in the water was with Ademar, a very friendly and patient local surf teacher who has been surfing in Montanita his whole life and really helped us improve our surfing skills. Since we had all our meals included at the hotel‘s restaurant, we never left to eat at another place- and we had no reason to do so since the food there is amazing! They have a large menu and everything we had was super good. The area inside the hotel is very beautiful and makes you feel that you are somwhere in the jungle. The rooms are big and nice and we had a balcony with a huge hammock. We had also the chance to speak to the owners of the hotel, Julie and Rusty. Rusty has his own workshop where he crafts the boards you can use for surfing and he explained the philosophy of crafting sustainable boards out of wood. This spirit is also found in the whole hotel. What we liked and appreciated the most about our stay is that the whole hotel stuff, from the reception to the restaurant and all the instructers/teachers, is extremly friendly and obliging. We felt very warmheartedly welcomed during the whole stay and we would surely come back to this amazing place!
I haven't strayed in the hostel but used to come very often to the surf shop and every time I was amazing how beautifully the place had been created. It's real gem in Montanita, kind of oasis. The surf shop has always been well equipped with friendly stuff.
We had a wonderful (10 nights) stay. The staff is lovely and the vibe is very chilled. Amazing location as not right in town. LOVELY

I love this place. The rooms are comfortable and it has a restaurant with a lot of options and a spa! I had a great back massage even with visions at some point of it. The owners, Julie and Tasty, are awesome hosts and the people working are very helpful. The yoga classes at 10am also are good for my wife to join every time we are around. All in all a very good place to stay in Montañita!
