Refugio Del Mejor Amigo is a private organization entirely self-funded at this time by Trish and Eamon. We are caring for more than 130 dogs and puppies. The shelter has two paid full time staff - the on site caretaker Gabriela Guillermo and Darwin Palomeque as Refugio Director. The upper section of the Refugio has space for an administrative office, education center, veterinary room, kitchen, grooming center and kennels. The lower section has three large enclosed kennels with exercise yards . There are a number of buildings that have considerable potential. The Refuge has two veterinarians working with our dogs - Dr. William Palaguachi and Dr. Marco Ortiz. All of our dogs are vaccinated and we are in the process of sterilization. We provide a safe and loving environment for dogs. Our goal is to find all of them a responsible, loving, 'forever' home. Refugio Del Mejor Amigo has taken steps to become a legal Foundation in Ecuador. Our attorney is Dr. Galo Cárdenas. As a foundation, we will be able to actively seek donations that allow us to grow and continue our work.
